Day of the Fight is a 1951 short subject documentary film shot in black-and-white. It was Kubrick's first picture, and he financed the film himself. It is based on some of Kubrick's work as a photographer for Look magazine in 1949.

PlotEdit

A short film, Day of the Fight doesn't cover much time; in fact, the entire picture chronicles events lasting in only one day. It shows middleweight boxer Walter Cartier on the day of a fight with Bobby James, an actual battle that took place on April 17, 1950. Opening with a short section on the history of boxing, it follows Cartier through his daily events, including going to breakfast and preparing for the fight. The climax shows the boxing match between Cartier and James.
